Tiirismaa Trail 2023 will be renewed

Tiirismaa Trail is moving towards something new and next summer there will be a competition for the scenery of the Messilä skiing center. This means that there are now enough views of Lake Vesijärvi and the hills of Messilä for all trips, from the shortest to the longest. In addition to the previous one, the event will also be a two-day event, and the competition will be held in Messilä on August 4-5, 2023. On Friday, we will let go of the hill challenges with three events: Messilä Vertical, Messilä Uphill and Tiirismaa Trail Kids. Vertical is a competition format where the pace increases gradually, but the group stays together for a long time. The Messilä hill is ascended and descended along a 1.2 km long circuit (100 m ascent and descent) within a certain time limit, and those who reach the finish line from each circuit will also participate in the race in the future. The pace increases gradually and the race can last for a variable amount of time. The execution times will certainly vary from about 1.5 hours up to 6 hours. The competition continues until there is only one competitor. Uphill, on the other hand, offers a more intense ride of one 1.6 km round, where you go up and down the Messilä slope once. In the same round, the youngest of the family can also compete in the Tiirismaa Trail Kids series, in the 12-year-old racing or free series, which can be completed by the whole family. On Saturday, the Tiirismaa Trail will be released for the traditional TT trips, which will experience the biggest change in that the event starts and ends surrounded by the hills and views of Messilä. The distances of the runs are between 8 and 42 km, so the shortest distance is slightly longer than before. On Saturday, runners and those at the venue are also treated to a buffet table at Messilä Bistro, which can be enjoyed at the end of the race. The Tiirismaa Trail weekend will be the best reason in August to go to the Hollola and Lahti area and further afield. Come and experience Tiirismaa Trail! From love to trails, the Tiirismaa Trail team

Tiirismaa Trail 2022 is happily behind us

Tiirismaa Trail, which was organized for the second time, gathered a record number of participants when almost 300 registered runners set out to conquer the highest peaks in Southern Finland. Heinsuo Sports Center once again offered a guarantee for a safe competition center event, which nevertheless had enough space to organize a safe event. Special praise was heard during the event for the operation of the route, its markings and service points. Special thanks for this goes to the great team of workers, who happily served and encouraged the runners at the service points - thank you! According to Kuulemaa, the snacks at the service stations led by Nosht sports drink also provided energy for the needs of even the most demanding refuellers. This year, 31 runners responded to the challenge of the 42 km distance hosted by Hoka. The rains in the morning made the route slower in some places than last year, but everyone managed to clear the route in well under 7 hours! Suunto's Jere Lallo started fast and after the initial scramble, he took last year's third runner-up Joni Lepistö with him. Halfway through, the advantage was in Lepistö's favor for just under a minute, didn't the step of Lepistö's ultra runner give others chances after that. Turning last year's 3rd place into a convincing win in under 4h with a time of 3:59.50. Jere Lallo fought for second place before Hollola's Jonathan Tolksdorf who convincingly tightened up at the end. Anna-Leena Korhonen managed to improve her last year's time by more than five minutes, with the remaining time dropping to just under 5 hours, 5:01.44, maybe next year will already go to a new number of hours. Anne Rauhamäki continued from last year, taking second place ahead of Teija Reijo. The most popular route of the Tiirismaa Trail was once again illuminated by Lumonite headlamps, as no less than 122 people raced the 21km route. Team Hoka's Juho Ylinen left no room for chance and showed why he has risen to the brightest elite of national trail running. Even in the ascent of Marta's hut, the gap between the three coming behind Samuel Heinosen, Tuomas Kari and Eetu Nordman was more than half a minute. Ylinen was able to win his second consecutive Tiirismaa Trail victory with a time of 1:29.15, at the same time getting a good workout for the international races at the end of the season. "A hard trail is easier to put a number tag on your chest with the encouragement of others, so @tiirismaatrail was the number one choice for longer intensive training. A suitable amount of ascent, technical small paths and a varied route easily attracts us, at least. So I can recommend it wholeheartedly! 💪🏼", said the winner of the day on Instagram." The organizers thank and wish Juho light feet for the rest of the season's competitions! Samuel Heinonen tormented Tuomas Kari's downhill speed already halfway on the slopes of Messilä, but kept his cool and pedaled away on the uphills. Karin taking 3rd place like last year. The great 6th place of Burn-O Productions Ibai Mendia Iztueta and the 12th place of CustomSports' Matti Salmensuu can also be considered as an important improvement. On the women's side, HK Varma Team's Pauliina Pohja, who has merited even on longer distances, convincingly took control of the competitive needle trails, improving her time from last year by almost two minutes, 1:51.38. Laura Seppänen fought herself for second place before a tight battle for 3rd place, which Anna Hopiaa turned into a victory 11 seconds ahead of Mia Tuoriniemi! Anna-Maria Jäpölä of Asikkala Raikka and Miika Heikkilä of Espoo Ski Association rolled to victory in the 12km series. The podium was completed by Emmi Teva and Liisi Koskelainen on the women's side, and Eero Leino before Juho Koski on the men's side. The trip offered by travel host Toolpoint saw a lot of smiling faces, maybe next year for a longer trip? The 6km offered by the organizing organizations CustomSports and Burn-O Productions was seen as a counterbalance between a relaxed atmosphere in the brands of the Trekki series and fast-paced racing by the future stars of the young series. Eelis Koskinen of HU-46 took the victory in the boys' under 16 series ahead of Alvar Krogius of Helsinki Suunnistinaje. On the girls' side, Ella Lehtisuo of Lahti Ski Club took the win ahead of Iira-Nella Norrbacka and Petra Rautiai of Saarijärvi, who narrowly finished third. It's great to see young people from different sports and clubs participating! The children's 2km distance saw the dominance of Hollola's athletes as the club took the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th places on the boys' side, Axel Koiranen taking the win followed by Kasperi Pakkala in second and Lukas Lehtonen taking the third place ahead of his brother Leo Lehto! In the girls, Hyvinkää's Neela Hyötynen took the win while Aurora Salminen Fernandez finished third, and Hollola's Athletes' Daniela Mattila took third place at the end of a tight final battle. Several new young people were seen on the trip offered by Umacon, and for next year the organizer aims to multiply the number of youth series! At the finish, Nosht's speed candies also did their business - sweet! You can find the final results by series on the competition pages! Go back to the atmosphere of Tiirismaa Trail 2022 with event photos and a YouTube broadcast (finish camera). The organizers have now "played through" organizing a trail running event twice in just over a year, and it's time to aim for the next step in the trail running scene! WE THANK ALL competitors, partners and people of Talkoo. This would not have been possible without you. The Tiirismaa Trail story continues, bigger and better next year! Thank you!

The heaviest list of the summer

The end of May is approaching and summer is fast approaching. In honor of this, we have published a small checklist of where you can study the named climbs of the Tiirismaa Trail's 21 km route, and their classifications in the familiar classifications from the cycling world (5 – HC, from lightest to heaviest). The list also includes the length of the ascent (km), total ascent (m) / average steepness (%). For example, the ascent of Marta's hut is 0.7 km long, which includes 55 meters of ascent. This practically means about 8 % average climbing steepness for the whole ascent. With this you can even change the climbs of your home trails in your imagination to one of the climbs of the Tiirismaa Trail! All 9 climbs on the list are included in the 21 km round. Thus, 42 km you can enjoy the entire memory list in two sittings. The 12 km distance includes ascents 1. - 3. and 8. - 9. The shortest 6 km distance comes from the list 1. Marta maja ascent. Also new for this year will be the height profile of the routes, from which it is convenient to see the location of the ascents of the route and the height ratios and profile. The final route profiles, also for the 6 and 12 km distances, will be on the race info page a little later. Less than 2 months until the sweatiest hill party of the summer. Now at the latest to tighten the laces of the sneakers and practice the hills both up and down. In running, it's not enough to get to the top of the hill. You still have to come down from there on your own feet!

Tiirismaa Trail organized for the first time was successfully run, pushed and stomped through.

The event gathered a good number of participants right from the first time to conquer the highest peaks in Southern Finland. In the end, there were a total of 229 participants. A 21 km distance was selected as the main distance in proportion to the number of participants, and a total of 96 trail runners were seen at the starting line. The atmosphere of the 21km start. Photo: Touho Häkkinen The Tiirismaa Trail, which was set up on a fast schedule, was mainly praised for its arrangements. Heinsuo Sports Center offered a great base as the competition center of the Tiirismaa Trail. A compact area that nevertheless had enough space to organize a safe event. There was also a positive feeling at the service points and the operation was otherwise smooth. Together with the people of Talkoo, we managed to create a functioning whole for the trail running event, where each participant could focus on the matter themselves and enjoy the day while trail running in a like-minded group. Tiirismaa - Messilä's versatile and varied trail networks offered curly needle paths, outdoor paths, stone steps and of course hills in all shapes and angles - at least enough. The main theme of the competition was really hills, and there were varying degrees of them on each route. On longer journeys (12 – 42 km) Tiirismaa was rammed on many occasions and even on the slopes of Messilä you could enjoy this delicacy even more on ascents with about 100 m of vertical ascent. A total of 21 km of ascent was offered for 750 m, and in the marathon therefore double 1500 m. Even on the shorter courses, you could also get a taste of Tiirismaa's wonderful hills! The track master was praised for planning the route. On the longer distances, the runners were really challenged, and on the shorter distances, there was relatively more of an easier section, where the steep ascents and descents were more runnable and shorter. Nobody was offered a lift, so each runner had to fight the laws of physics on the climbs. Children under 12 scratched a fast-paced 2km route, where they also got into the atmosphere of a trail run. The event also got a clean slate from the marking of the route, and none of the reported missteps came to the ears of the organizers. The route was marked in several ways, which minimized the possibility of getting lost. This was also brought up by Team Hoka's Juho Ylinen, who won the men's 21km series, in the Etelä-Suomen Sanomat article (for subscribers). Tiirismaa Trail has come to stay on the trail running map. Our strong goal is to become one of the biggest trail running events in Finland in the future, which would attract both the top runners and those just starting trail running. This year, the best cyclists in Finland were already at the starting line. Veera Lähde representing Mäkimyyri was the overwhelming number one in the women's 42 km series with a time of 4:25:53. The second place was taken by Anne Rauhamäki, Ryläys' friends, and the third was Anna-Leena Korhonen. On the men's side of the same distance, the competition was closer, as the top three reached the finish line in less than eight minutes. Team Hoka's Toni "Nuuksion Susi" Valido was the winner in 3:40:46 ahead of Tero Mietti and UltraSiilien's Joni Lepistö. A particularly tough coverage was seen in the men's 21 km series, where Team Hoka's Ylinen (1:27:16), Liikupi's Mikko Knuuttila (1:29:16) and Tuomas Kari (1:30:26) took the top spots. The pace in this series was clearly even faster than the track master's estimate beforehand, and now Ylinen's pace was around 4:10 min/km on a route with 750 meters of ascent! In the women's 21 km series, SK Pohjantäh's Sofia Haajanen took hers with a time of 1:46:39. The difference to Ruut Uusitalo, who came in second, was 2:51. HK Varma Team's Pauliina Pohja came third, 6:33 behind Haajanen. The women's 12 km series was as expected smooth, where Heini Wennman of SK Pohjantähti raced to victory with a good final time of 1:00:48. Another competitive orienteer, Anniina Taipale, came closest to Wennman, who is better known as an orienteer. The difference between Wennman and Taipalee was only 1:15. Team Hoka's Noora Hyyrynen, who is also an orienteer, but also going hard on the track, finished third, 3:12 slower than Wennman. The men's 12 km was dominated by Mikael Fabritius, also representing Lahti Suunnistajat -37 on the orienteering side. Fabritius clocked the approx. 12 km route in 54:59. Second came Juho Koskinen (Hollolan Urheilijat -46) with a time of 59:24 and third was Eetu Granqvist, 1:01:38. The women's 6km top places went to Camilla Tuominen of Hollola athletes (35:46), Nina Nerg-Toivola (37:58) and Jatta Tuominen of HU-46 (41:05). In the men's 6km side, the top three were as follows: Eemeli Ruusila, Burn-O Productions (36:12), Jukka Majander, Hämeenlinnan Tarmo (36:42) and Teemu Björn, CustomSki (57:47). Girls under 16 top3: 1. Ellinoora Kovanen, Tiirismaan Latu (40:03), 2. Sara Muhonen Pakilan Veto (40:15), 3. Peppi Painilainen, Ylästön Urheilijat (50:20) Boys under 16 top3: 1. Aato Hämäläinen, Pakilan Veto (30:07), 2. Matias Salmela (39:56), 3. Alvar Krogius, Pikku-Veskun Samoojat (41:06) The children's (under 12 years) 2km runs saw close competition and extremely fast final races. On the girls' side, Kiira Tervo of Sajaniemi Sonni had the fastest pace with a time of 10:43. The next places and podium places were taken by the duo of Artjärvi Ahjo, Linnea Simola (11:16) and Lahja Pekko (12:30). On the boys' side, Elmo Kiiskinen, representing Lahti Suunnitajat -37, was crowned the winner with a time of 9:42. Lukas Lehtosen (Hollolan Urheilijat -36) was only 16 seconds behind the runner-up. Third was Roope Itävuo, Sajaniemi Sonnit 1:37 slower than Kiisk. So the coverage was tough in each series, but above all, the event also attracted completely new trail runners.
